IV: Eating, Accommodation, Transportation, and Sightseeing in Zhangjiajie City:
1. Eating and Accommodation for Zhangjiajie Independent Travel:
Generally, what backpackers on independent trips like most when going out is to taste the local specialty snacks, because they have plenty of time, which is why most people nowadays like to take the form of independent travel. I believe what backpackers like best are the following------
In Zhangjiajie's city area, there are many places with good food. The first worth recommending is Zhangjiajie's signature dish - Sanxiaguo. The so-called Sanxiaguo is actually a very convenient dry pot, made from three main ingredients, a hot pot stewed without soup. I think the 'Master Hu Sanxiaguo' near Sanjiaoping (very close to Jishou University) serves Sanxiaguo at 15 yuan per portion, with a very generous amount; two or three people only need to order 30 yuan worth, and you are guaranteed to eat your fill and eat well! What I recommend is the dry-fried intestines, dry-fried walnut meat, and Xiangxi cured meat stewed together; while eating, you can also order a portion of pickled radish, crisp and sour. It really is superb!
There is also a place for eating pickled cabbage beef, called Yinmandou. It is rather hard to find; go into the small alley opposite the aviation school, adjacent to the pedestrian street. The building at the entrance of the street is a large internet cafe called Songzhumei, off-white in color, and the building on the other side is the three-story building of the pedestrian street. Go in from here and walk a stretch; it is located in the middle of this small alley, with a signboard. Their pickled cabbage beef is quite famous, and the fried eggs taste very good too. Worth going to try?
Also, in the city area there is a place called Sanjiaoping, where there is a spot specializing in fish head. The taste is also very good; tell the driver and he can take you there. On Beizheng Street, there are also many places with good food, such as Master Li's Crispy Sole (light flavor), Brother Jun's Intestine Restaurant, Lekoufu, Wulong Shanzhai, Music Kitchen and more! The flavors are all made quite well. 2. Accommodation in Zhangjiajie:
Zhangjiajie has a great number of hotels, too many for me to introduce them all. For safety's sake, you should still stay in a regular hotel. In the city area, the price of a standard room at the two-star standard is between 80-120 yuan per night. Three-star is 180-240 yuan per night. In addition, Zhangjiajie also has Home Inn and Jinjiang Inn express hotels.
2. Transportation for Zhangjiajie Independent Travel:
Zhangjiajie is just a small mountain city. As long as you are in the city area, take a taxi, and from the east of the city to the west of the city 20 yuan will do it. The taxi starting fare is 3 yuan, plus a 0.5 yuan fuel surcharge. Taking the No. 10 ring-city bus at one yuan per person can also take you around Zhangjiajie for a loop. If you have good stamina and like shopping, walking around the city area is also quite easy!
3. Sightseeing for Zhangjiajie Independent Travel:
In the city area, the place worth visiting should be the Tujia Customs Park. The No. 10 ring-city bus passes by, and 5 yuan by taxi will do it, very convenient. What the Tujia Customs Park mainly introduces is some minority architecture and customs and folkways. Inside there is already the Nine-Heaven Stilted Building that set a Guinness World Record, and there are Tujia customs performances every night (10:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m.), climbing a mountain of knives and stepping into a sea of fire, Ghost Valley Divine Skill and so on, very worth visiting. The ticket is 80 yuan per person.
Another place in the city area worth touring is a place called Xiuhua Mountain Hall. There is no local driver who does not know it; anyone will take you there. Inside it is purely Miao and Tujia folk customs, and there are also some collections, quite an eye-opener. The ticket is very cheap, 80 yuan per ticket.
Another place worth visiting is White Sheep Ancient Temple, also called Puguang Zen Temple; locals generally call it by the latter name. From the railway station, take bus No. 6 and you can get off directly in front of the temple. The ticket is 20.
Finally, the places recommended to visit in the city area are one mountain and one park. The mountain is the Martyrs' Cemetery; you have to climb for a while, but it is not too tiring, and in 10 to 20 minutes you can climb to the top to view the whole of the small city of Zhangjiajie, so it is not a wasted trip here. At dusk, when taking a walk and strolling, you can climb it just as exercise. The other, the park, is Dayong Bridge Park, a very nice place to rest, free of charge, and also a good place for locals to rest after meals. It is fairly large, and you can see the majestic Tianmen Mountain, which is where the plane flies through the cave. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting at 7 p.m. there is a large-scale musical fountain performance, and the scenery is very nice!
