This world is full of flowers everywhere. Here is a flower, there is a flower. Beyond the garden where no boundary can be seen, there is still another garden. In corners where no gardener passes, where even the slanting sun cannot reach, blocked and without wind, only occasional rain, muddy water, moss, more damp. I think I have always loved traveling, a yearning of the soul, but I have never taken action. Twenty years of my life, I have never even left the province. I think I…

This world is full of flowers everywhere
Here is a flower
There is another flower
Beyond the garden whose boundaries cannot be seen
There is still another garden

In corners no gardener passes by
Where even the slanting sun cannot reach
Blocked and stifled, no wind floats through
Only the occasional rain
Muddy water, green moss, even more damp

I think I have always loved traveling, a yearning of the soul, yet I have never actually taken action. Twenty years of time, I have not even left the province. I think in my past life I must have been a bird, forever flying without stop, overlooking all the beauty that can be seen.

To say I regret it is actually not too bad, because I am a native-born Zhangjiajie person. The scenery here is very moving. High mountains, beautiful waters, blue skies, white clouds, ancient-style buildings, kind and simple people—this place has them all.

If you are coming to Zhangjiajie for travel, there are several attractions you must visit.

Tianmen Mountain

Tianmen Mountain is the highest mountain in Zhangjiajie's Yongding District, only 8 kilometers from the urban area, and is named after the natural wonder Tianmen Cave. Tianmen Mountain was called Songliang Mountain in ancient times, also known as Yunmeng Mountain and Fanghu Mountain. It is the earliest famous mountain in Zhangjiajie to be recorded in historical records. Its main peak is 1518.6 meters, and in July 1992 it was approved as a national forest park.

Legends of Tianmen Mountain

In the sixth year of Yong'an of the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period (263 AD), at a thousand-meter-high cliff of Songliang Mountain, a cave suddenly opened in the precipice, bright and clear like a gate. Emperor Sun Xiu of Wu regarded it as an auspicious sign, and the saying that Tianmen Cave opened spread throughout the world, which is why Songliang Mountain was renamed Tianmen Mountain. Tianmen Mountain, towering from the ground and holding up the sky, has steep and dangerous mountain terrain and majestic, magnificent scenery, and is called Zhangjiajie's natural painted screen. The uplift of Tianmen Mountain began with the Yanshan Movement, and after the Himalayan orogeny, the mountain body was violently raised by more than a thousand meters, deeply cut by faults and joints around it, and combined with long-term wind and rain erosion and karst processes, it formed a towering, lofty, and uniquely dominant karst platform landform. Its summit is relatively flat and preserves a complete original secondary forest, with many extremely precious and unique plant species, and a forest coverage rate of 90%. Among it are ancient trees reaching the sky, tangled vines, moss everywhere, and stone bamboo shoots and stone buds at every step, like naturally formed bonsai everywhere. It is praised as the most beautiful sky garden and heavenly fairyland in the world.

Zhangjiajie Forest Park

On September 25, 1982, with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the former Zhangjiajie Forest Farm was officially named "Zhangjiajie National Forest Park." By March 1991, China had established a total of 8 national-level forest parks, namely Wutong Mountain National Forest Park in Shenzhen, Guangdong, approved in May 1984; Songshan National Forest Park in Dengfeng County, Henan, approved in October 1986; Qiandao Lake National Forest Park in Chun'an County, Zhejiang, approved in October 1986; Yushan National Forest Park in Shushu City, Jiangsu, approved in July 1987; Huangshan National Forest Park in Huangshan City, Anhui, approved in June 1988; and Lushunkou National Forest Park in Dalian City, Liaoning, approved in November 1989. From the approval dates, it can be seen that Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is China's first national-level forest park. Zhangjiajie's forest resources are exceptionally rich. The forest coverage rate reaches 97.7%.
