Zhangjiajie tourism has four major ace scenic areas: (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Scenic Area, Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, Tianzi Mountain Scenic Area, Yangjiajie Scenic Area). The one that unquestionably ranks first is Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Scenic Area (the already-open Golden Whip Stream boutique touring route), Tianzi Mountain Scenic Nature Reserve (the already-open Tianzi Mountain touring route, Yangjiajie Scenic Area touring route, Yuanjiajie Scenic Area touring route, Ten-Mile Gallery touring route). Nearby there are also Jiutian Cave, Yellow Dragon Cave Scenic Area and Baofeng Lake Scenic Area, and Tianmen Mountain Tourist Area.

Zhangjiajie Forest Park Scenic Area

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was approved in 1982 by the State Planning Commission under the authorization of the State Council and was China's first national forest park. It belongs to the territory of the former Dayong City. Because Zhangjiajie National Forest Park became famous throughout the world, with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the former Dayong City in Hunan Province was officially renamed Zhangjiajie City starting from April 4, 1994. It is connected with Tianzi Mountain and Suoxiyu Nature Reserve, forming the Wuling Scenic and Historic Area. In December 1992, the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO officially approved Wulingyuan, with the forest park as its main body, for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The natural scenery here is remarkable for its peaks, secluded for its valleys, lush for its forests, beautiful for its waters, and divine for its clouds. Among them, the green peaks are said to number 3,800, with relative heights of 100 to 300 meters. The mountains are covered with green vegetation and remain evergreen throughout the four seasons; the peak rocks resemble people and animals, utensils and objects, vividly lifelike and spectacular in momentum. Between the peaks, streams murmur, valleys are deep and secluded, and dense shade blocks the sun. It has the reputation of “three thousand green peaks, eight hundred glassy waters.” In spring, mountain flowers bloom brightly and everything looks renewed; in summer, the forests are dense and the cool breeze is gentle; in autumn, the sky is high and the air is crisp, with red leaves everywhere; in winter, ice and snow cover everything, wrapped in silver.

Yuanjiajie Scenic Area

Yuanjiajie
Located on the north side of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, it is a mountain platform. It leans against rocky peaks and mountain ridges at its back and faces secluded valleys and grouped peaks in front, extending from east to west. The main scenic spots include Houhuayuan, Mihuntai, and the No. 1 Bridge under Heaven.
Bailong Elevator Yuanjiajie is located at the northern foot of Shadaogou. It is a huge and relatively gentle mountain mainly composed of quartzite, and is another concentrated scenic area in Wulingyuan.
Tianxuan Bailian: At the end of Shadaogou, a stream of spring water drifts down from the top of a cliff more than 200 meters high. When visitors stand on the opposite viewing platform and look over, they see a long white silk falling from the ninth heaven, splashing jade and flying flowers, raising mist and generating fog, rushing and washing through the valley stream. If there is heavy rain, it is even more magnificent, surpassing Huangshan's Nine Dragon Waterfall after rain.
No. 1 Bridge under Heaven: A quintessential scenic spot of Wulingyuan. The uncanny workmanship of nature places a natural stone slab about 5 meters thick across the top of two mountain peaks, connecting the east and west peaks. Its height, span, and thrill are rare in the world, hence it is called the “No. 1 Bridge under Heaven.”

Tianzi Mountain Scenic Area

Introduction to Tianzi Mountain
Tianzi Mountain is named because Xiang Dakun, a Tujia leader and peasant uprising leader in the early Ming Dynasty, called himself “King Tianzi Xiang.” Tianzi Mountain borders Suoxiyu to the east, Zhangjiajie to the south, and Sangzhi County to the north, and is one of the four major scenic areas of Wulingyuan District. It is located at the highest point of the “Golden Triangle,” with the highest elevation at 1,262.5 meters (Kunlun Peak) and the lowest at 534 meters (Shilan Valley). The total area of the scenic area is 67 square kilometers, and the mountain-ring touring route is 45 kilometers. The average annual temperature is 12°C, annual rainfall is 1,800 milliliters, the annual frost-free period is 240 days, and the annual freezing period is about 60 to 80 days. From the geological and geomorphological perspective of Tianzi Mountain, apart from a layer of limestone and a very small amount of turtle-pattern stone above several hundred meters in elevation at the summit, most scenic spots are composed of quartz stone and belong to sandstone peak forest landforms, basically the same as Suoxiyu and Zhangjiajie. They are sedimentary rock (aqueous rock) gradually deposited from a vast ocean 380 million years ago. Later, due to a complex and long diagenetic process, the quartz sandstone we see today with a total thickness of five to six hundred meters was formed, creating various strangely shaped landscapes. The scenery of Tianzi Mountain can be summarized in one sentence: “primitive scenery, natural beauty.” Its landscapes and scenic spots are all created by heaven and earth, with no traces of artificial carving. Here there are not only wonderful mountains and beautiful waters, but also simple folk customs, unique folkways, and distinctive ethnic foods waiting for visitors. No wonder some people comment: “Whoever knows the face of Tianzi will not look at other mountains after returning,” and “If you do not visit Tianzi Mountain, your trip to Wulingyuan is in vain.”

Yangjiajie Scenic Area

Yangjiajie borders Zhangjiajie to the east and Tianzi Mountain to the north, with an area of 34 square kilometers. It has three touring areas: Xiangzhi Stream, Longquan Gorge, and Baihou Valley, with more than 200 scenic spots. Yangjiajie has bright mountains and beautiful waters, with picturesque scenery: Xiangzhi Stream has high peaks and distant skies, deep ravines and clear waters, slanting sunlight on ancient paths, birds singing and cicadas chirping, like a land of peach blossom beyond the world; Longquan Gorge has cliffs arrayed in rows, a natural barrier, like a spectacular ancient city wall; Baihou Valley is the home of macaques and egrets, with troops of macaques appearing among cliffs and valleys, and flocks of egrets resting among green branches and leaves...... Here there is also the “King of Cliff Vines,” praised as the “No. 1 Vine in China”; strange five-colored flowers......
According to legend, when the Yang family generals of the Northern Song Dynasty suppressed King Tianzi Xiang, they once set up camp at Tianzi Mountain. Later, because the war dragged on for a long time, the Yang family multiplied here, making this place “Yangjiajie.” Today, Yangjiajie still preserves the Yang Family Genealogy and Yang family ancestral tombs from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as place names such as “Liulang Bay,” “Qilang Bay,” “Zongbao Bay,” and “Tianbo Mansion.”

Hehe~ This route is not bad, right? Visit these scenic areas in order, and I believe it can bring you a different travel experience.
