Morning: Pick-up at Zhangjiajie station, then transfer by private tour vehicle to the most beautiful small town -- Fenghuang Ancient Town, about a four-hour drive. Lunch in the ancient town.
Afternoon: We then visit the former residence of Shen Congwen, a literary giant of his generation; the former residence of Xiong Xiling, the first cabinet premier of the Republic of China; the Yang Family Ancestral Hall, one of the twenty-four ancestral halls; the ancient East Gate Tower; the North Gate Jumping Rocks, once a passage for thousands of soldiers; take a leisurely wooden boat to enjoy the intoxicating scenery of the Tuo River; the stilted houses with red lanterns hung high; the Rainbow Bridge; and the Cui Cui Tower -- Huang Yongyu's studio -- hidden among green mountains and clear waters.
