The Jiangya Reservoir area is only thirty kilometers from the World Natural Heritage site of Wulingyuan. It belongs to the middle reaches of the Loujiang River, a tributary of the Lishui River. The Loujiang River is a beautiful and magical pure land on earth, located in the northwest of Hunan Province, bordering Hefeng County of Hubei Province. It is surrounded by sparsely populated high mountain gorges and forests. Due to its remote location and inconvenient transportation, it has maintained a relatively pristine state. The construction of the Jiangya Hydropower Station and the closing of the dam gates to store water created a water surface of eighty thousand mu. This formed a splendid scenic route featuring streams and waterfalls, exotic rocks and caves, and a long history and culture with folk customs.
The lake cruise starts from the power station dam and extends upstream to Beizi Stream in Sangzhi County, covering more than sixty kilometers round trip. Among the highlights, four scenic spots stand out as superlative: Yinmen Mountain, Chuanyan Cave, Luoxiang Pool Waterfall, and Liaocheng, known as the "Four Supremes" of the Loujiang River.
