Shiban and Lingxi Tombs
Located on the loess ridge at the border of Shiban and Lingxi villages in Chengguan Town, Cili County. There are more than 1,000 ancient tombs from the Warring States period and the Han Dynasty. Most are small and medium-sized tombs. In 1987, a provincial and county archaeological team conducted excavation at Shiban and Lingxi, clearing and excavating more than 30 ancient tombs from the Warring States period and Han Dynasty, unearthing over 300 cultural relics including pottery, bronze ware, lacquered wooden objects, and bamboo slips. Among them, the two largest tombs face the same direction and are only 1 meter apart, forming a joint burial. The zun and bi vessels unearthed from the tombs, well-preserved ge halberds, and beryllium weapons with wooden handles from the Warring States period, as well as lacquered and vermilion-painted bronze mirrors, are all rare in Hunan Province. There are also approximately 20,000 characters of Chu bamboo slips, representing the largest quantity and scale of Chu bamboo slips unearthed in China to date. The Shiban and Lingxi ancient tombs are among the larger Warring States and Han Dynasty tomb clusters in Hunan, holding important value for studying the politics, economy, and culture of this historical period.
Zuomutu Tomb
Located halfway up the mountain at Gulin Tu in Lingxi Township, Cili County, there are two tombs. The burial mounds are semi-circular, 2.5 meters high, with a base diameter of about 10 meters. One was excavated in 1979, yielding cultural relics such as a gold hairpin and a bronze mirror with phoenix-bird patterns. The other remains well preserved.
Mao'an Yefu Tombstone
Some historians believe that Yefu was a general under Li Zicheng, the leader of the peasant uprising at the end of the Ming Dynasty. There is a tombstone for Yefu in Mao'an Village, Gaofeng Township, Cili County. The stele is 1 meter high, with incised regular-script inscription reading: "The old Zen master was a warrior." Born in the Ming, died in the Qing. His aspirations were lofty, his bearing majestic. He possessed the talent to govern heaven and earth, and long harbored hatred for the powerful eunuchs; riding the momentum to overturn seas and rivers, he dared to contend for the realm, yet was unwilling to serve, and willingly settled among springs and stones. He then resided in Lingyang at Lüxiang Cave, built a thatched hut, constructed a wooden temple, founded the base, and gradually reclaimed fields and gardens. His clarity of mind was here, his luminous nature was here, and in the wilderness he found his sweeping peace. And in his natural simplicity he cultivated his order. Written by Longgang on the 21st day of the 12th month of the Xinyou year, the 11th year of Xianfeng (1861).
Baizhuyu Hanging Coffin Cluster
Located in Baiyu Village, Gaoqiao Township, Cili County, with Xiangzi Rock to the west and Yunchao Mountain to the northwest. The stream in the valley is turbulent and never dries up throughout the year. Cliffs face each other on both sides, hundreds of meters high, so that looking up one sees only a sliver of sky. The cliff faces are covered with hanging coffin tombs, approximately more than 30 in total. The tomb chambers are vertical rectangles, about 1.3 meters wide, over 1 meter deep, and 2 meters long, located at varying heights of about 15, 20, and 25 meters from the rock base. They are vertical hanging coffin tombs carved into the rock by ancient people. Their age cannot be determined. According to local natives, in the 1950s someone entered and saw decayed coffins, bones, bronze swords, and fragments of pottery and porcelain, but today nothing remains.
