Tianmen Mountain Glass Skywalk

The Tianmen Mountain Glass Skywalk hangs on the western route of the summit area of Zhangjiajie's Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area. It is 60 meters long in total, with its highest point at an altitude of 1,430 meters. It is another popular attraction in the Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area.

The Tianmen Mountain Glass Skywalk is a section of the Tianmen Mountain Guigu Plank Road suspended high on a cliff. The glass viewing platform that extends into empty space allows visitors to look out at the surrounding scenery and look down at the cliffs below the plank road. The glass platform extends 4–5 meters beyond the plank road and is specially provided for visitors to take photos. It is another courage-testing feat built after the wooden suspension bridge spanning the gorge.

This glass skywalk, which makes your legs go weak just looking at it, offers a thrilling and shocking experience comparable to the world-famous Grand Canyon Skywalk “Skywalk” in the United States. On clear days, the reflections of blue sky and white clouds cover the entire walkway, letting people, while trembling over the transparent glass beneath their feet, enjoy all the more the pleasure of walking on clouds. In cloudy and misty weather, the glass skywalk appears and disappears in the mist, and the heavenly and earthly beauty is even more astonishing.

In order to let visitors see the beautiful scenery through the glass bridge without blemish, visitors going onto the bridge are required to wear shoe covers to keep the glass bridge transparent and clean. If you are brave enough, you must challenge the Eastern “Skywalk” at the top of Tianmen Mountain.

Apart from reinforced concrete supports placed about every meter, the entire walkway is made of highly transparent tempered glass. It is said that each pane of glass can bear 1,000 kilograms, so there is absolutely no safety problem. The railings are also made of double-layer tempered glass and stainless steel frames.
