Suoxiyu is located in the eastern part of Wulingyuan, adjacent to Zhangjiajie Forest Park of Zhangjiajie City to the west. It is named because the Suo River starts flowing eastward from Water Winding Around the West Gate. It is closely connected with Tianzi Mountain and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, sharing the same lineage and the same flowing water, and all belong to the same karst sandstone peak forest landform group. 
The Suoxiyu Scenic Area boasts unique and diverse landscapes, integrating mountains, rocks, forests, lakes, waterfalls, karst caves, seas of clouds, and rare birds and animals into one, and is famous for its fantastic peaks, beautiful waters, stalactite caves, and deep gorges. Its main scenic spots include the West Sea Scenic Area, the Natural Botanical Garden Scenic Area, and the Ten-Mile Gallery Scenic Area; to the south are the Baizhang Gorge Scenic Area, Baofeng Lake Scenic Area, and the Bieyou Dongtian Scenic Area; to the east are the Underground Karst Cave Scenic Area, the Yixiantian Scenic Area, and the Baihutang Scenic Area. Currently open attractions include Huanglong Cave, Baofeng Lake, the Macaque Park, the West Sea, the Ten-Mile Gallery, and Baizhang Gorge, with Huanglong Cave, Baofeng Lake, and the West Sea being the finest of the finest in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, covering a total area of 180 square kilometers and comprising over 200 scenic spots.
The Suoxiyu Scenic Area, Suoxiyu, is closely connected to Zhangjiajie to the southwest and adjacent to Tianzi Mountain to the northwest, covering an area of 147 square kilometers with over 200 scenic spots. In Suoxiyu, the mountains, waters, and caves each form their own integral whole—the mountains with their undulating peaks create delightful contrasts; the waters, with clear springs and beautiful waterfalls, are ever-changing; the caves, deep and mysterious, are incomparably wonderful. The underground palace of Huanglong Cave, resembling a fairyland, the Ten-Mile Gallery with its natural reliefs full of poetic charm, the rippling Baofeng Lake, the legendary Baizhang Gorge, and the illusory West Sea clouds and mist, as well as the Mandarin Duck Waterfall with its contrasting hard and soft forms and styles—all are so enchanting that one forgets to return. As early as the mid-Ming Dynasty, someone inscribed a poem on the rock wall praising it: "The high gorge a hundred zhang deep in cave clouds, to find the Peach Blossom Spring, seek it here."
