Some say the Ten-Mile Gallery is a magical and exquisitely beautiful scroll freely painted by nature when it had infinite inspiration! The Ten-Mile Gallery is located in the Suoxiyu Nature Reserve, with a total length of 5 kilometers. It is somewhat more open than Golden Whip Stream. On both sides of the canyon, fantastic peaks and bizarre rocks emerge one after another. Walking into the canyon is like stepping into a splash-ink landscape painting. The main scenic spots along the way include the God of Longevity Welcoming Guests, the Herb-Gathering Old Man, and the Three Sisters.
Revolving Pavilion
It is a stone peak rising straight from the ground, with a hollow "window" at the top. From a distance, the entire stone peak looks like a multi-tiered pagoda; up close, it resembles a revolving pavilion. A winding narrow path spirals upward, leading directly to the top. The lower level of the revolving pavilion has rocks forming a circular corridor. Standing within the stone corridor, elegant peaks nestle around you. On one side of the stone pavilion, there is another stone chamber attached, spacious enough to hold a hundred people, forming a master-and-servant pair with the pavilion, enhancing each other's charm.
God of Longevity Welcoming Guests
Living itself is a kind of happiness, and longevity is the happiness within happiness. That stone peak looks like an old man, his face brimming with a happy smile, as if welcoming you! This God of Longevity is extremely long-lived—already several million years old. Some say that visitors to Zhangjiajie will all enjoy health and longevity, not only because of the fresh air here and the considerable exercise during sightseeing, but more importantly, because of the blessing and protection of this old God of Longevity.
Herb-Gathering Old Man
The Herb-Gathering Old Man is the most spectacular sight in the Ten-Mile Gallery: an isolated stone pillar that closely resembles an old man. He is bent over, with a cloth wrapped around his head, carrying a basket on his back filled with all kinds of Chinese medicinal herbs. His face is full of wrinkles, his deep-set eyes gaze forward, and his expression seems somewhat worried. If you are not consciously looking at him but suddenly raise your head and see him, you would really think he is a Tujia elder from some mountain village.
Legend says he was the physician of King Xiang, specializing in using the mountain's Chinese herbal medicines to treat the ailments of the mountain people. Strangely enough, Zhangjiajie is indeed a treasure trove of Chinese medicinal materials. According to preliminary surveys, Zhangjiajie has over 700 kinds of Chinese medicinal herbs. In many Tujia mountain villages of Zhangjiajie, there are indeed kind-hearted and highly skilled Chinese medicine practitioners like the Herb-Gathering Old Man. Could there really be deities in this world?
Fairy Maidens Worshipping Guanyin
After viewing the "Herb-Gathering Old Man" scene, walk about another 100 meters, and on the right-side peak there is another beautiful sight—Fairy Maidens Worshipping Guanyin. The greatly compassionate, all-saving Guanyin Bodhisattva sits high above, cross-legged, gazing straight ahead with a kindly expression, while 19 fairy maidens bow their heads in silence, cupping their hands in salute, devoutly praying to the Bodhisattva to protect them, to eliminate disasters and harm for the mortal world, and to bring abundant harvests of all grains...
King Xiang Reading Books
In the canyon of the Ten-Mile Gallery, there is a stone peak split into two—the left peak is larger, the right peak is smaller—especially resembling a person holding a book and reading with great interest. This is how the Tujia uprising leader Xiang Dakun looked when reading military books here. Locals call this stone peak the incarnation of King Xiang, and therefore this scenic spot is named "King Xiang Reading Books."
Three Sisters
These three peaks before us rise straight from the ground, arranged in a row, as if three sisters are looking around in all directions. What are they looking at? The eldest sister holds a child in her arms, but no one knows whose child it is; the second sister has a big belly, but no one knows who is responsible; the third sister has no situation yet, but seems to be thinking that the man who dated her last night should be fairly responsible, right? Someone joked that Tujia people use songs as matchmakers and have free love—perhaps it is all the fault of mountain songs! Among the Three Sisters Peaks, the third peak is especially wondrous: on its chest there is a nipple-like hole about 1 meter in diameter, through which one can glimpse the sky beyond the mountain. It looks like a bright mirror hanging on the stone wall, and also like a crystal-clear jade ornament worn by a young maiden.
Husband and Wife Embracing Child
Three stone peaks are closely connected, like a family of three tightly embracing—the one on the right is the father, the one on the left is the mother, and the one in the middle is the child. The husband and wife face each other, embracing their beloved child, a joyful family portrait full of harmony.
Monkey Slope
At the end of the Ten-Mile Gallery. Here the rocks are jagged and the trees lush. Often three to five, or even hundreds to thousands of monkeys gather here, hence the name Monkey Slope.
Sightseeing Train
The Ten-Mile Gallery Sightseeing Train is the electric shuttle vehicle of the Zhangjiajie Ten-Mile Gallery Scenic Area, allowing tourists to better enjoy the beautiful scenery of Zhangjiajie's Ten-Mile Gallery. It is also a major feature of the Ten-Mile Gallery.
