Lüdong Mountain is located within Baojing County, with its main peak at an altitude of 1,227.3 m. It is named for the two parallel holes in the peak that form the character "Lü." The mountain is rich in high-quality tea, and "Lüdong Silver Needle" is listed as a national famous tea. The mountain has beautiful scenery and also produces various medicinal herbs, such as gastrodia, Dysosma versipellis, and angelica. It paints a spectacular Xiangxi scene. Within the Lüdong Mountain area, fantastic peaks stretch in succession, waterfalls cascade one after another, villages are scattered in picturesque disorder, and traditional customs are well preserved. In 2009, it was listed by the provincial government as a provincial-level scenic area, and in 2010 it was included by the prefectural party committee and prefectural government in the "Qianzhou Ancient City Core Scenic Spot Circle." At present, the master plan for the Lüdong Mountain Tourism Area, designed by Hunan Sida Tourism Planning and Design Co., Ltd., has passed expert review at the provincial, prefectural, and county levels. The plan relies on local Miao culture, Miao acrobatic skills, and the golden tea industry, positioning the Lüdong Mountain Tourism Area at the level of a national-level Miao natural heritage and cultural heritage site, with the core theme positioned as "Lüdong Secret Realm · Sacred Mountain of the Miao Frontier." Through 5 to 10 years of effort, it aims to build it into the world's "Lüdong Mountain-Shaking Drum" and a national-level Lüdong Mountain Miao village.
The three counties and cities and eight townships around Lüdong Mountain all belong to our prefecture's Miao ethnic concentration area, with similar natural environments, the same folk culture, similar geographical locations, comparable levels of economic development, and each possessing certain resource advantages. Although the seminar was only "civilian-operated," once the strategic concept of building "Greater Lüdong Mountain Tourism" was proposed, it immediately received positive responses from the eight townships and subdistricts around Lüdong Mountain in the three counties and cities of Baojing, Jishou, and Huayuan. According to the seminar organizers, the alliance formed by the three counties and cities and eight townships in the Lüdong Mountain region aims to overcome each going its own way and fighting alone in development, integrate resources for contiguous development, strengthen ecological environmental protection, fully leverage each township's industrial advantages, achieve complementary advantages, resource sharing, and common development, enhance mutual exchange and cooperation, continuously improve the competitiveness of the Lüdong Mountain regional economy, build the Lüdong Mountain regional tourism brand, and jointly promote regional economic development.
