Zuolong Gorge Scenic Area is located in Hexi Town, Guzhang County, separated from "Furong Town"—Wangcun—by a stretch of water. It is 5 kilometers from Mengdong River Railway Station and can be reached directly via Provincial Highway 1828.
Zuolong Gorge was formed over 3 million years by the wind and water erosion of nature, and has long remained hidden among the vast tens of thousands of mountains of Xiangxi. It is about 3,500 meters long, with a maximum height difference of more than 300 meters; the widest part is less than a zhang, and the narrowest part allows only one person to pass through. Within the gorge, sheer cliffs pile up in layers, streams and waterfalls hang across, cliff trees lean out at angles, and exotic grasses cover the ground everywhere.
Zuolong Gorge has China's first special tourist trail. All the trails are built deep in the gorge, following the terrain of the mountain, carefully crafted yet seeming naturally formed. The rough chestnut wood plank walkway lets you get close to that deep green pool and hear the tinkling mountain springs; the delicate stepping stones let you play in the flowing springs and touch the streams and waterfalls; the primitive stone-step path forces you to mobilize all your physical and mental energy to climb carefully and feel the gorge; and the thrilling but safe iron ladders let you, accompanied by the roaring stream below your feet, savor a sense of comfort amid fright. At the exit, the Tujia mountain village preserves quaint and unique living customs. A piece of cured meat with a sip of fragrant "corn liquor" will wash away all your fatigue, and in relaxation the honest host will tell you stories of bandits who once roamed here.

Departing from Guzhang County seat: There are direct buses to Zuolong Gorge from the Guzhang county seat, about a 40-minute ride. You can also rent a car.
Departing from Zhangjiajie: By car, about 2.5 to 3 hours.
