Hongcheng Hot Spring is located 3 kilometers west of Qidong County town. Behind the spring, mountains embrace the area with crisscrossing fields. The water temperature stays around 20 degrees Celsius year-round—warm in winter and cool in summer—suitable for winter bathing. Its water quality contains various trace elements that treat skin diseases and benefit health, and does not contain harmful substances such as sulfur.
Hongcheng Hot Spring was discovered around before the fourth year of Song Qing (1198). During the Ming Dynasty, a famous scholar from Chang'an named Zhang Yanyuan inscribed a poem on the rock: "Content to be clear and pure, nourishing the village soil; envying not the bustling paths of Huaqing."
The spring emerges from a rock cave and flows together to form a small pool of about 20 square meters. The flow rate is 0.3 cubic meters per second. The spring water is clear to the bottom, unaffected by the rainy season, and flows continuously year-round.
