Dongzhou Island is located in the middle of the Xiang River southeast of Hengyang's urban area. It is about 2 kilometers long and over 200 meters wide, with a beach area of 25 mu. The water area to the east is 300 meters wide, and to the west 500 meters wide. On the island there are temples, an academy, ancient trees, and peach blossoms. In seasons when the water is low, the beach is also visible. The island is surrounded by water on all sides, densely covered with trees and thick shade, and the environment is very tranquil. Yueyang's Junshan, Changsha's Orange Isle, and Hengyang's Dongzhou Island are known together as the three great isles of the Xiang River basin. Dongzhou Island is one of the eight scenic spots of ancient Hengzhou.
