Chuanyan Shilin is located halfway up Xianglu Peak. It was newly opened as a scenic spot in May 1988, and its name was inscribed by the modern calligrapher Wang Xuezhong. Its entire character is embodied in the word "fun," combining the fun of stones, the fun of caves, and the fun of poetry. Among the new four wonders of Nanyue scenery, it has the elegant title "the fun of Chuanyan Shilin." The main scenic spots include the Maze, Lovers' Stone, Flying Stone, Human Head Stone, Immortal's Stove, Immortal's Pot, and Little Western Heaven. All are based on natural scenery, and on the rock walls outside the caves are carved more than 40 poems from ancient and modern times praising Nanyue, written by famous contemporary calligraphers.

Little Western Heaven: Xianglu Peak resembles an incense burner and is often shrouded in mist and clouds, like incense burning in a censer with green smoke curling upward, hence the name. At the top of the peak there is a marvelous scene formed by huge rocks: one resembles a monkey scratching its cheek, stretching its head and shrinking its neck, looking around in all directions; one resembles a pot-bellied, dull-witted monk; and another resembles a fine horse accompanied by a monk. This image looks exactly like Tang Sanzang riding a white horse, bringing Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing to fetch scriptures from the Western Heaven, hence the name "Little Western Heaven." After touring it, one feels endless wonder and delight.
