Inventors' Square is located below Shiziling on Xihu Road in Leiyang City's urban area. Designed by the Changsha Architectural Design Institute, the square has a planned land area of 340 mu. It consists of the East Square, West Square (Municipal Square), and the Cai Lun Commercial Street pedestrian area. The Inventors' Square was invested in and constructed by the Leiyang Economic Development Zone, with a total investment of 60 million yuan. Development and preparation began on January 5, 2001, and it was completed and put into use on September 5, 2001, with a construction period of 8 months.
The East Square highlights the themes of advocating science and carrying forward civilization. It features a large bronze statue of Cai Lun standing 14.7 meters tall, as well as bronze and marble statues of 31 famous inventors from ancient and modern times, China and abroad, including Yuan Longping, Huang Daopo, Moulton, Newton, Edison, and Nobel. Four large relief columns and a relief wall depicting the four great inventions of ancient China recreate the achievements and ancient civilizational brilliance of inventors such as Einthoven, Lody, Faraday, Franklin, da Vinci, Li Bing, Lu Ban, Hua Tuo, and Zhang Heng. Strolling through it, one can feel the scientific atmosphere and enjoy learning through entertainment. The West Square focuses on municipal offices and garden viewing. Colorful fountains, sound systems, and lighting are integrated into the square, forming an overall layout of sculptures as points, greenery as areas, and beautification as surfaces. The south and north zones of the square are planned as commercial pedestrian streets, covering a total area of 62,000 square meters. The east zone is planned as a large commercial center, with plans for hotels, cinemas, and other modern landmark buildings, making the square a multifunctional civic cultural square for tourism, leisure, entertainment, and gatherings.
