Tanshan, with an elevation of 230 meters and an area of 8 square kilometers, is located in Tanzi Mountain Town, Hengnan County, adjacent to National Highway 322, and is one of the seventy-two peaks of Mount Heng.

Tanshan is also called Yunwu Houshan. The word "hou" in it is because this place is shrouded in clouds and mist, blocking the sky and sun, denser than the mist of Yunü Mountain; and since Yunü Mountain is also called Yunwu Mountain, Tanshan got the name Yunwu Houshan. According to historical records of the Chinese Buddhist Association, Guangfu Temple was built on Tanshan and its incense was once flourishing, but it was destroyed during the ten years of turmoil.

Many natural rock caves are also scattered across Tanshan, each with a different shape and remarkably true to life—some resembling spiders, some wild dogs, some benches—and they are named accordingly: Spider Cave, Wild Dog Cave, and Bench Cave.

Tanshan, with an area of 8 square kilometers, is rich in barite deposits. After more than 50 years of mining by the state, a large number of barite mine caves have been left behind. Barite mine caves differ from ordinary mine caves: first, their walls are solid; second, they are warm in winter and cool in summer; third, some spring wells and spring pools have formed inside, crystal clear and refreshingly cool. The many mine caves are all connected, and the air inside circulates freely, fresh and cool.

Tanshan blends mysterious legends with beautiful natural scenery, leaving people broad space for excavation, development, and utilization.
