Guanxiang Islet is located on the west side of the main channel of the Xiangjiang River north of the county seat, 5 kilometers from the county town, with a total area of over two hundred mu. The islet has dense trees, with large trees over a hundred years old visible everywhere, warm in winter and cool in summer. It was originally an important base for the county seed farm's high-quality citrus and various economic crops. After development, it has now become a resort for tourism, entertainment, leisure, swimming, fishing, and summer retreats.
The islet originally had the Wenfeng Pagoda and Wenfeng Academy. Climbing the pagoda to take in the Xiangjiang scenery, looking south against the current, with still reflections sinking into jade-green depths, it fills one with joy and relaxation. The islet got its name from this. Unfortunately, these two ancient buildings were bombed and destroyed by Japanese aircraft in 1938.
Every summer and autumn, if you come with companions, it is as if you have entered another world. There is no city noise here; it is the most delightful hidden paradise. At dusk, standing on the islet, gazing far across the Xiangjiang River, merchant ships with raised sails, gulls bathing on the flat sand, the slanting glow of the setting sun dyeing the entire river with dragon-scale ripples of light. It feels as if you are riding upon a dragon, soaring and leaping, carefree as an immortal. Therefore, among the Eight Scenes of the Hengshan outskirts, it is honored as "Guanxiang Sunset Glow."
