Jin'e Park

Jin'e Park is located in the city center, overlooking Dongting Lake to the west and bordering South Lake to the east. The hill resembles a giant bird standing tall. The Guangxu-era Hunan General Gazetteer records: 'Jin'e Hill is two li south of the county; legend says a strange bird flew and settled on the hill, its color like gold.' Hence the name Jin'e Hill. According to folk legend, in ancient times a monster in Dongting Lake stirred up trouble and harmed living beings. The Jin'e fairy soaring in the sky discovered this, was greatly angered, and swooped down to fight the demon, pecking it to death. The Jin'e fairy then gathered many golden birds...

Jin'e Mountain Park is located in the city center, overlooking Dongting Lake to the west and bordering South Lake to the east. The mountain's shape resembles a giant bird standing. The Guangxu-era "Hunan General Gazetteer" of the Qing dynasty records: "Jin'e Mountain is two li south of the county; legend has it that a rare bird flew and settled on the mountain, its color like gold." Hence the name Jin'e Mountain. According to folk legend, in ancient times a monster in Dongting Lake stirred up wind and waves, harming living beings. The Jin'e Fairy, soaring in the sky, discovered this and was greatly indignant, so she swooped down to do battle with the demon and pecked it to death. The Jin'e Fairy then invited many golden birds to carry fish fry from the South Sea and release them into Dongting Lake, while she herself folded her wings and raised her head, standing erect by the shore, forever suppressing the evil spirits. Later, Dongting Lake became a rich land of fish and rice, and Jin'e Mountain is the incarnation of the Jin'e Fairy.

Jin'e Park is located on the west side of Nanhu Avenue, surrounded by major urban roads, with extremely convenient transportation. Jin'e Park is both a major scenic spot of the Dongting Lake Scenic Area and Yueyang City's municipal cultural recreation and entertainment park. The planned area is 58 hectares. The terrain is low hills, with the highest peak at 97 meters above sea level; climbing to its top affords a panoramic view of the entire city. Jin'e Mountain has a long history and was also a contested ground for military strategists, leaving behind many scenic spots and historical sites. According to research, the main historical sites include Jin'e Academy, Wu Sangui's military camp fortifications, Xie Dengzhi's Tomb, Peach Blossom Cave, Kuixing Cave, and Wenchang Pavilion. Park construction began in 1976 and has now taken initial shape. The mountain forest is lush and green, and the park's main walking paths have basically been finalized. The main scenic spots include Wangyue Pavilion, Jade Rabbit Pavilion, Cuigu Pavilion, Crescent Bridge, and Lotus Fragrance Tower. The park's main gate, the East Gate, is about to be completed; Wenchang Pavilion has broken ground; the North Gate has also commenced construction. This year, public bidding will also be held among major development companies for the construction of five main scenic spots: the Ancient Fort, Nianyue Pavilion, Chengnan Pavilion, Tingtao Pavilion, and Bishan Temple.

The forest on Jin'e Mountain has grown rapidly and is now lush and green, making it the only forest park in the city proper at present. Jin'e Mountain has clustered peaks and winding streams, with beautiful scenery. The main peak is 97 meters above sea level, the highest point in the city proper. Climbing the mountain and gazing into the distance, the splendid sights of Baling are all taken in at a glance. At the foot of the mountain there were originally such historical sites as Kuixing Pavilion and Jin'e Academy. According to records: in the early Qing dynasty, when Wu Sangui rebelled against the Qing to restore the Ming, he once used Jin'e Mountain as a stronghold, and the trenches still survive today. Several cannons left behind when Wu Sangui's troops were defeated bear inscriptions such as "First Year of King Zhou" and "Second Year of Zhou." "Second Year of Zhou" was the reign title of Wu Sangui when he proclaimed himself emperor in Hengyang, proving that these objects were indeed left by Wu's army. Each cannon is 4 meters long, 16 cm in diameter, and weighs over 5,000 jin, cast of pig iron. On the main peak there is also a tall television transmission tower.

Today's Jin'e Mountain Park, like the broad-minded Dongting, welcomes tourists and merchants from home and abroad.
