Longjiao Mountain is located 30 kilometers southeast of the Linxiang city proper. Also known as Yaogu Mountain, it is an offshoot of the Mufu Mountains of the Wuling range, covering an area of 200 square kilometers. It borders Hubei's Chibi to the north, Chongyang to the east, and Tongcheng to the south. Its peaks stretch on endlessly, with the highest peak at 1,261.1 meters above sea level. Longjiao Mountain boasts the natural Laolongtan Waterfall, the beautiful Longyuan Reservoir, the ancient Qingshi Stockade, and rare ginkgo trees. Here, mountain ridges pile upon one another, shrouded in mist and clouds that never disperse even on clear days. The terrain is strategically located and was one of the guerrilla zones of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base. With dense forests and over 450 varieties of mountain herbs, it is known as a "natural pharmacy." Li Shizhen, the "Sage of Medicine," once came here to gather herbs and practice medicine to help the people.

In May 1996, the Linxiang Municipal Government designated it as a scenic and historic area, divided into 2 major scenic zones with 49 scenic spots. In September 2001, the China (Guangxi) Yao Studies Society held a special seminar on Yao research in Linxiang. Through in-depth investigation and scientific verification, Longjiao Mountain was confirmed as the earliest Qianjiadong (Thousand-Family Cave) in Yao history. The Hunan Provincial People's Government designated the Longjiao Mountain Yao Qianjiadong Site as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.

The main scenic spots of Longjiao Mountain include: High Gorge and Calm Lake, Dragon Gate Stone Gate, Stone-Built "Honeycomb," Gutang Ginkgo, Gourou Pit Waterfall, Old House Ancient Well, Zhulou Bluestone, Longjiao Plank Road, Way-Pointing Stone Stele, Stone-Built "Frog," Man-Made Stone Platform, Lu Family Stone Carvings, Immortal Ancient Hall, Arrow-Bamboo Dense Grove, Yijia Shrine, High Mountain Willow, Longtan Flying Waterfall, and Crouching Dragon Spouting Milk.
