Xiangyin is an old revolutionary base area. As early as the Northern Expedition and the Agrarian Revolutionary War period, peasant associations and the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army fought bloody battles here, such as martyr Chen Yi'an, commander of the Jinggangshan Huangyangjie Defense Battle (later a Red Army division commander). Especially during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, many revolutionary patriots and heroic figures emerged whose deeds were truly moving. In October 1950, Ren Bishi passed away. Since Ren Bishi was a revolutionary elder of this county (now Miluo County), and in order to commemorate the elder, honor revolutionary martyrs, and inspire the people's enthusiasm for building New China, a revolutionary martyrs' memorial tower was built in Xiangyin according to instructions from the central government.
The Xiangyin Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower was completed in May 1951. The main inscription on the south side reads: "The spirit of the martyrs who sacrificed for the cause of the people's liberation is immortal." On the north side it reads: "The great warrior and statesman of the Chinese people, Comrade Ren Bishi, is immortal." Around the base of the monument are engraved brief biographies and heroic deeds of revolutionary martyrs such as Chen Yi'an. At that time, leaders at the provincial, prefectural, and county levels each wrote inscriptions:

Inscription by Hua Guofeng (then Secretary of the Xiangyin County Party Committee): "For the cause of our people, sacrificing life and family; inherit the martyrs' will, build a new China."
Inscription by Wang Shoudao (then Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Government): "The martyrs who heroically sacrificed themselves for the cause of the people's liberation are immortal."
Inscription by Wu Guang (then Secretary of the Changsha Prefectural Party Committee): "Models of the sons and daughters of China."
Inscription by Zhang Gancheng (then Deputy Secretary of the Changsha Prefectural Party Committee): "Models of the Party, glory of the people, exemplars for future generations."
Inscription by Shi Jie (then County Head of Xiangyin County Government): "The exemplary deeds of the heroes who sacrificed for national independence and people's democracy will be immortal in the memory of us and our descendants. Let us learn from them and dedicate our lives just as unreservedly to the cause of people's democracy and the great motherland."
Today the Martyrs' Cemetery is shaded by trees, and around it stand ancient architectural complexes—the Zhuangyuan Bridge, the stone archway "Taihe Yuanqi," and the stone memorial arch "Suran Qijing"—which set each other off beautifully. Small as it is, the cemetery forms a scenic spot of its own, and truly inspires in visitors who come to pay respects or sightsee a feeling of "profound reverence"!
