The Changsha Museum is located at No. 480 Bayi Road, Changsha City. It is a comprehensive local history museum built after the reform and opening up on the basis of the former site memorial hall of the CPC Xiangjiang District Committee, covering an area of 42,000 square meters with a building area of 12,000 square meters. The museum houses more than 20,000 precious cultural relics reflecting Changsha's history and modern revolutionary history. Among them, the Shang Dynasty bronze large nao, bronze bian nao, gold-and-silver-inlaid bronze box with dragon and phoenix patterns, dragonfly-eye glass beads, bronze sword with scabbard, and Cao Zhuan agate seal are hailed as rare treasures.
The permanent exhibitions open year-round here include the "Changsha Three Kingdoms Wu Bamboo Slips and Selected Cultural Relics Unearthed Over the Years Exhibition," rated as one of the first top ten fine exhibitions in China in 1997, the Mao Zedong Poetry, Couplet, and Calligraphy Art Stele Corridor, and the former site of the CPC Xiangjiang District Committee. In 1997, the newly opened Southern China Ancient Music Performance Hall launched ancient music performances featuring replicas of China's earliest ancient instruments capable of ensemble performance—the Shang Dynasty bronze bian nao.
In the autumn and winter of 1993, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong's birth, a Mao Zedong poetry, couplet, and calligraphy art stele corridor was built along the western wall of the museum, adding a shining pearl to the ancient city. Like a long dragon winding through the camphor and osmanthus trees on the west side of the Changsha Museum. The corridor is 198 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, in modern residential style, with small blue tiles, white lime walls, and pavilions at both ends, solemn and elegant, winding and twisting. Embedded in the corridor walls are one hundred Hunan white jade steles, engraved with 104 Mao Zedong poems, all in intaglio with gold leaf, imitating traditional calligraphy and painting mounting forms, exquisitely crafted. Among them, 59 are in Mao Zedong's handwriting, and the rest were respectfully written by famous contemporary Chinese calligraphers, covering regular, running, cursive, and clerical scripts, preserving both ancient style and modern charm. The fonts are elegant and unrestrained, with sharp and vigorous strokes, every character a pearl, becoming more captivating the more one looks. Mr. Zang Kejia enthusiastically dedicated words to the stele corridor: "People's leader, great Mao Zedong. Toiling for state affairs, galloping in the art garden. Great talent and broad knowledge, leader of poets and master of ci. Cursive script flows with charm, imitated by all. Combining the strengths of a hundred schools, letting the great brush roam freely. Respecting the ancients without being bound by them, creative spirit surges within. Unique ingenuity, emotion in every stroke. Revered by hundreds of millions, foremost among all heroes. In the land of hibiscus, outstanding people and a blessed land.
