The Shuifu Tourism Area is located in central Hunan, with the Shuifumiao Reservoir in Hunan as its main body, situated in the middle reaches of the Lianshui River, a tributary of the Xiangjiang River. It has a planned area of 177.2 square kilometers, of which the water area is 44.3 square kilometers, with a reservoir capacity of 600 million cubic meters. It lies at the center of three major tourism areas—Shaoshan, Nanyue, and Zhangjiajie—bordering Nanyue to the south, Yueyang Tower and Shaoshan to the north, Zhangjiajie to the west, and Jinggangshan to the east. The electrified double-track Xiangxiang-Guizhou Railway passes through the area, and the Shangrui Expressway crosses it, making both water and land transportation extremely convenient, with excellent transportation and locational advantages. The tourism area has a sound ecological environment, with nearly a thousand species of rare plants and many types of national second-class protected animals growing there year-round. The historical relics along the reservoir have also brought profound cultural deposits to the Shuifu Tourism Area. Within the area are many national- and provincial-level cultural relics and historic sites, which produced historical celebrities such as Zeng Guofan, Chen Geng, Xiao San, Huang Gonglue, Song Xilian, and Luo Chongzhou. The excavation of the Song Kiln site, a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit, filled the historical gap of no Song kilns in the south. In the area there are 5 first-class scenic spots, 9 second-class scenic spots, and 5 third-class scenic spots. Large and small islands are scattered like stars, and the "Shuifu Stone Forest," thousand-year-old vines, and ten-thousand-year-old rocks, together with clear water, quiet mountains, strange stones, secluded caves, beautiful islands, and winding reservoir inlets, form a wonderfully unmatched picture of an ecological paradise.
