The former residence of Qiu Jin is located at Youyi Lane, Shibazong, Xiangtan City. This outstanding heroine in modern Chinese history and pioneer of the women's liberation movement spent eight spring and autumn seasons here. Not far from the Great Pier is a spacious small lane called Youyi Lane. On both sides of the lane are high walls and deep courtyards, mostly homes of officials, gentry, and wealthy merchants, and several pawnshops and money houses were also opened there. More than ten zhang into the lane entrance is a shopfront with blue bricks, blue tiles, and a granite gatehouse. Above the main gate is a white marble stone plaque inscribed "Yiyuan Dang," which was the famous Yiyuan Pawnshop in Xiangtan.

Yiyuan Pawnshop originally had dozens of rooms. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, it was bombed by the Japanese invaders, and most of it became ruins. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, factory buildings and dormitories were newly built. Today, two rooms of the former Yiyuan Pawnshop remain. In 1982, the Xiangtan Municipal People's Government designated it a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit, and above the main gate hang several glittering golden characters reading "Former Residence of Qiu Jin."
