Built in 1954 as the Martyrs' Cemetery and renamed Xiangtan Cemetery in 1981, it houses the remains of martyrs who died for the revolution and veteran Red Army cadres who made significant contributions, including soldiers who fell during the PLA's liberation of Shaoyang.

  Xiangtan Cemetery is located on the west side of Jianshe North Road in Xiangtan City, opposite Xiangtan Park. The Martyrs' Cemetery is an important place for Xiangtan City to honor revolutionary martyrs and an important base for patriotism education, and is a provincial and municipal key protection unit for revolutionary martyrs' memorial buildings.

  It was built in 1954 and named Martyrs' Cemetery. In 1981, it was renamed Xiangtan Cemetery. The cemetery buries martyrs who sacrificed for the revolution and veteran Red Army soldiers and veteran cadres who contributed to the revolution. Among them are more than 90 commanders and fighters who died when the Chinese People's Liberation Army liberated Shaoyang, cadres and soldiers who gave their lives during the periods of suppressing bandits and opposing local tyrants and in socialist construction, and martyrs such as Zhang Biyun who sacrificed during the Great Revolution. 

  The cemetery covers 2 hectares. In the center stands a Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Tower. Behind the tower are a funeral parlor, mourning hall, exhibition room, and memorial tablet room. The garden is planted throughout with green pines and cypresses, dotted with orange groves, flowers, and fruit, creating a quiet, elegant, and clean environment.
