Huilong Mountain Tourism Area is an important Buddhist cultural tourism scenic area in central Hunan. It is 68 kilometers from Changsha, 50 kilometers from Huaminglou, and 15 kilometers from Huitang. The Ningxiang-Hengyang high-grade highway and the Luoyang-Zhanjiang Railway run through it.

Since ancient times, Huilong Mountain has enjoyed the beautiful name "Sacred Mountain of Southern Chu." The Baiyun Temple on the mountain has a history of a thousand years and is one of the hundred most famous temples in the country.

The Huilong Mountain Tourism Area is planned to be initially completed within ten years as a 6-square-kilometer AAAA-level tourism area themed on Buddhist cultural tourism and integrating leisure vacations and sightseeing entertainment into an ecological and leisure-oriented destination. Huilong Mountain is increasingly demonstrating its unique charm as a famous Buddhist mountain and tourist resort of the three Xiang regions.

The Sacred Mountain of Southern Chu Shines Through the Ages

The Sacred Mountain of Southern Chu—Huilong Mountain—is named for its mountain range, which surges westward like a green dragon and then suddenly turns back in a winding manner, seeming to have the posture of a "returning dragon gazing at its ancestor." The main peak of the scenic area, Huilong Peak, has an elevation of 366 meters. The mountain forms are winding and graceful, with verdant peaks rising in clusters and beautiful scenery. At the summit is a winnowing-basket-shaped basin with an area of over a hundred mu, where emerald bamboo grows in clusters and green trees screen the sky. Gentle breezes often blow and white clouds linger, hence the name Baiyun Wo (White Cloud Nest). As a treasured Buddhist site, Baiyun Temple of Huilong Mountain, one of the hundred most famous temples in the country, is built here.

Huilong Mountain has long been compared with Mount Heng for its reputation of "the incense of Mount Heng, the candles of Huilong Mountain," enjoying fame at home and abroad. Its thousand-year history has left Huilong Mountain with a profound cultural heritage. Emperor Qianlong once improvised a poem on a fan at Baiyun Temple, Mao Zedong stayed overnight here during his study travels, and Zuo Zongtang of the Qing Dynasty personally inscribed "Sacred Mountain of Southern Chu"... Many literati and notable figures of successive dynasties also wrote poems and inscribed plaques here, leaving behind numerous words of praise.

In recent years, in accordance with the thematic positioning of "Buddhist culture and ecological tourism," the Party committee and government of Shuangfupu Town have intensified tourism development of Huilong Mountain. The thousand-year-old temple shines with even greater spiritual radiance, and many pilgrims come to worship each year, receiving 300,000 incense-burners and visitors annually.
