Southeast of Ningxiang County seat, by the banks of the Wei River, there is a Xianhua Rock. The Wei River comes from upstream, while the Chaoyang River and Hualong Stream flow in from the city. Below the rock, over time, a deep pool has formed. Both banks are shaded by green trees, and green pines drip with emerald color on the rock. Their reflections enter the water, and the water is as green as jade, hence the name Yutan. A bridge flies across the pool, and beneath the bridge fishing boats race one another, green waves and golden shuttles making the scenery extremely beautiful. At night, the lights of ten thousand homes are reflected in the river, with fishermen's songs sung in the evening and short flutes played sideways. The Qing dynasty man Wang Wenyuan praised it in a poem: Yutan's thousand feet of water, day and night raise small waves. The moon surges and the river's heart widens, the wind pulls many stone rapids. The cold current follows phoenix-weed, brocade waves weave dragon shuttles.
