One and a half kilometers east of Ningxiang County seat, there is a stone hill named Shiyi. The county gazetteer says: "Two hills embrace each other, like mighty lions after fighting gasping for breath. The lion peak crouches and sits, bordering the Wei River, with misty green spreading in confusion; morning sun and evening glow often produce much fine atmosphere." The Ming dynasty poet Liu Duan climbed Shigu Mountain several times, looking up at the mountain wind and down at the Wei River, lingering and unwilling to return, and wrote a poem: "East of the city is a famous mountain, like a lion crouching by the riverbank. Misty light floats above and below, reflecting the jade pool water. After rain the cloudy mountain is wet, wanting to fly but unable to rise. Leaning on my staff in the evening clearing, a light wind throws the mountain purple into disorder."
