Tower Terrace in Evening Glow

Tower Terrace in Evening Glow

The east gate of Ningxiang County was originally called Yingxun Gate. Not far beyond it stands Tower Terrace Hill, home to Yaotou Stockade and the remains of a tower said to have been built by a Ming-dynasty Prince of Ningxiang. The hill was once covered in layered green forest, with morning glow tinting the slopes in purple and blue. The poet Liu Duan wrote of its towering form, dawn hues, and resemblance to Mount Li and Penglai.

The east gate of Ningxiang County seat was originally called Yingxun Gate. Not far outside Yingxun Gate is LouTai Mountain, on which is Yaotou Stockade, and in the stockade are remains of a tower. It is said the tower was built by a Ming dynasty Prince of Ningxiang. Hence the mountain is named LouTai Mountain. In those years the mountain had layered forests of emerald green, with morning glow shining on the mountain, blue and purple shadows reflected, and dawn scenery pleasant. The poet Liu Duan wrote: "The mountain's force towers like a terrace, clearing dawn color is always good. The eastern sun is bright, blinds and screens still clear and distant. As if it were Li Mountain Palace, vaguely like Penglai Island. With wine one should climb, why ask about the Five Elders?"
