In Zhuliangqiao Township northeast of Ningxiang County seat, in ancient times this was the tail of Dongting Lake. In Xiaoyuan Village of the township there is Lingfeng Mountain, also called Dao Mountain. Forest valleys are clear and secluded, and rivers flow around it. Whenever the night moon is in the sky, its quiet reflection sinks like a jade disk, and the scenery is extremely beautiful. At the foot of the mountain is Lingfeng Academy, where the Song dynasty grand scholar Hu Anguo and his son Hu Hong lectured. Great Confucians such as Zhu Xi and Zhang Shi also came to Lingfeng Academy to lecture. The Ming dynasty man Hu Canduan once wrote a poem recording its scenery: "The peak is transmitted by former worthies, and with them the peak gains color; the peak and moon remain as before, but former worthies are hard to meet again." The former worthies refer to Hu father and son and masters of Neo-Confucianism such as Zhang Shi and Zhu Xi.
