The site of the founding meeting of the Xinmin Society is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province, located at Liujia Taizi in Rongwan Town, Changsha City (now Xinmin Residential Community). The Xinmin Society was a revolutionary group organized by Mao Zedong, Cai Hesen, He Shuheng, and others during the May Fourth period. On April 14, 1918, Mao Zedong, Cai Hesen, Zhang Kundi, Luo Zhanglong, and 13 others held the founding meeting at Cai Hesen's home. At that time, the society's purpose was to "temper moral conduct, reform scholarship, and improve people's hearts and customs." During the May Fourth Movement, the society often organized members to discuss national affairs and world situations, study the experience of the Russian October Revolution, actively engage in the May Fourth patriotic movement and the New Culture Movement, seek ways and methods to transform China, and made important preparations in ideology and cadre training for the founding of the Communist Party of China. Before the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the society ceased its activities.
The original site was Cai Hesen's residence in Changsha from 1917 to 1920, which was destroyed in the war. In 1986, it was rebuilt according to the original appearance, covering about 500 square meters, facing south, with a wooden structure and a single-story blue-tiled house, three bays wide and one bay deep, including a central hall, main rooms, side rooms, and utility rooms. The house is surrounded by a bamboo-woven courtyard wall, with a vegetable garden on the left and an entrance gate and pond in front. The entrance gate bears a plaque reading "Chijilu." The entire site is arranged and displayed according to the original appearance, including Cai Hesen's living quarters and the meeting room for the founding meeting, with an auxiliary exhibition to the east that comprehensively introduces the three-year history of the Xinmin Society's activities.
