Driving east from Liuyang City in Hunan Province, one enters a hilly area where the terrain gradually rises. Cangfang Village in Zhonghe Township, over 40 kilometers from Liuyang City, is the hometown of Hu Yaobang. In this village, the "Xiling Hu Clan" has settled and lived for generations, with a history of over 400 years.
The "Xiling Hu Clan" residence in Cangfang Village is located at the junction of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, in the remaining ranges of the Luoxiao Mountains. The mountain ridges wind from the Luoxiao Mountains, and south of the Liuyang River, they rise again as "Yunju Mountain." To the south of this mountain, the terrain gradually opens up, called "Yanggu." Following Yanggu south for five or six li, there is a small mountain ridge called "Xiling," at the foot of which Hu Yaobang's former residence is located, backed by the ridge. In front of the house is a stream several meters wide called Minxi, which flows year-round with a tinkling sound. From today's perspective, it is indeed a place with beautiful scenery.
In 1998, Hunan Province decided to allocate 200,000 yuan to build an exhibition room adjacent to Hu Yaobang's former residence, integrated with it. Of this funding, 100,000 yuan was first made available. With the funds not fully in place, each employee of the Liuyang Cultural Relics Management Office raised 10,000 yuan, and the exhibition hall was completed that year. The exhibition hall was designed by the Liuyang Design Institute. The original plan was larger, requiring the removal of the mountain behind the former residence. Later, the design was modified, and only a small exhibition hall with 3 rooms was built.
